Welcome to Central Washington Regional History Day!

Contest Date and Venue: The Central WA Regional History Day Contest will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Davis High School, 212 South 6th Avenue, Yakima, WA 98902.

Davis High School is located on the west side of downtown Yakima, between Tieton Drive and Walnut Street at 6th Avenue.

This is the home page for the Central Washington Region History Day Contest. National History Day is a fun and challenging event that encourages students to become historians by developing research, analysis, presentation, and social skills. Working individually or in groups, Junior Division (grades 6-8) and Senior Division (gardes 9-12) students select a topic related to an annual theme. The 2018 NHD theme is Conflict and Compromise In History. Students conduct extensive historical research using primary and secondary sources . . . and then distill their research and analysis into one of five presentations: a dramatic performance, a multimedia documentary, a museum exhibit, website, or historical research paper.

Eight regional contests are held around Washington State in February and March. Students may choose to compete by entering their project against others in the same division and category. Regional winners advance to the Washington History Day State Contest, held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Green River Community College in Auburn. Students who finish in first or second place at the WA State contest in each category qualify for the National Contest, held June 10-14, 2018, at the University of Maryland in College Park.

The Central WA Contest serves the following counties: Benton, Chelan, Douglas, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, and Yakima.

Student Registration

Welcome to the student registration site! Three important things

1. Please make sure that your teacher has registered first.

2. If you are part of a group project, have one group member register first and create the project entry. The other group members can then register with the project link

3. Students need to print out the permission and media release form, get it signed by their parents, and turn it in to their teacher in order to participate.

4. Students, remember that you do NOT pay money on this website, but rather through your school.

Teacher Registration

Welcome teachers!  You may begin your registration for the Central WA Contest here.  You will need to register first, before your students register.  Once your students have registered, you may log in and view their registration information to make sure it is correct.  A parent information letter about the contest will be provided here and on the student registration site.  Students are also given a permission form on their site for parents to sign and return to you.  Please collect these forms and bring them with you to the contest on March 3, 2018.

We are also asking teachers to reach out to their parent community and ask for judges.  Judges are always needed to help evaluate projects.  All training is provided.  Feel free to send them the link to this site where they can register as a judge.

Questions?  Email Matt Norling, Coordinator.

Judge Registration

THANK YOU for registering to judge at this year's contest! Our Central WA Region has a long history of great judges because of partnerships with community members like you! We need 80-90 judges to make our day complete, so literally, without you, the students would not be able to compete!

This year's contest is Saturday, March 3, at Davis High School in Yakima. Judge Orientation begins at 8:00 a.m. and yes, you will get breakfast goodies!

Please complete the brief registration (use the menu above), which includes your preferences for categories to judge. ...and again, THANK YOU!!!

Sincerely, Matt Norling, Coordinator.
